To my little peanut Mackenzie,
You are my little spider monkey. When I was 5 years old, I remember wanting a pet monkey. Little did I know, decades later, you would arrive.
Baby girl, you stole my heart a long time ago. I remember last December, (a few months before you moved in with us), you fell asleep in my arms. And I felt like I was in heaven. And then your first overnight at our house on Valentine’s Day this year, you had the stomach bug…And threw up all over me. As disgusting as that was, I just wanted to care for you, even if it meant a sleepless night.
It’s been a pleasure watching you grow, learn, and develop over the past several months. Going from a 1.5 year old speaking 5 words, to a 2 year old speaking hundreds of words! You have the most precious voice, especially when you say, “I love you mom!” Or “Hold You” (which means “hold me”), or “one more kiss!” Or “no thank you!”
You love when I rock you, and sing you “twinkle twinkle little star.” You always ask for “one more song!” Or “one more book!” When we go on walks, your main goal is to find ALL of the pinecones, and greet every flower or tree along the way. You often request “God TV!” before bed, which somehow you came up with…because we usually just call it bible stories. You love little baby bum, and Mickey Mouse clubhouse. I love hearing you repeat Mickey say “Oh Toodles!”
You are our little risk taker. And quite the climber! You are the most independent 2 year old I know. And recently, we’ve seen that little sassy and opinionated side starting to shine through. I’m still not quite sure what you love eating more…CHALK or suckers. I don’t really get it, but I’m sure you’ll outgrow that within time.
I missed out on your birth and infancy. I don’t know how big or small you were when you were born. I missed your first smile, first words, first food, and first steps. But there’s a lot of your life I promise I won’t miss out on. I’m not gonna miss you moving into a big girl bed, or your first day of school, or your child dedication at church.
I chose you, baby girl. You are loved more than words can describe. And I’m absolutely thrilled that God gave us YOU! I promise to be your biggest cheerleader in life. I promise to protect you and keep you safe.
Mackenzie, you are a ray of sunshine in my life. You have the most stunning blonde bouncy curls. Your skin is like porcelain, and your heart is like gold. Keep on smiling, giggling, hugging and blowing me kisses. Thank you for allowing me to be your forever mommy.
love,
mommy
